My business idea is that there is major opportunity involved when it comes to what is going to be available and who will be using my services around major universities. When it comes to the transportation for major universities and colleges bus services just can not get the job done when it comes to time and the drop off locations. The student body is who has the need and are the potential customers with my product. The nature of the need is that bus services only have specific pickup and drop offs. Having such pick ups and drop offs can be extremely annoying and hard to work around with a busy schedule. With my service there will be an app and or website that every student will have a find me button and we will be there in no time and it will put your location on and we will pick you up from your car in the parking lot and take you to the door of your needed destination.
The changes in the environment is that the streets keep getting more and more clustered and with my services we will not have to wait for the lights on the crowded streets we can use the sidewalks or even designated drive throughs. My customers are satisfying this need because there will always be a huge student body for me to work with. To me this opportunity is massive because it offers me the right age group of clients and a never ending supply of them and for me to give a good service at a fair price. The window of this opportunity will always be open as long as there is a student body at these universities. My product offers students that refuse to wait for buses or refuse to walk to their designated room for school an easier opportunity to get there faster. For just a dollar per student that can be paid with tuition and then, the school will pay me. eventually we will have licences to have golf carts around the campus to make it easier on not just my drivers but the students. No one will have to wait in the line at traffic lights as long as we have sidewalks or even bike passing lanes.
Easily money will pile on and on from the more students decide to pick this service. My innovation will address the opportunity that I identified by making sure that students get the best price and the best time of arrival to their classes. I believe the customers would and will switch to my product because I offer such an easier alternative than the bus system and way more pickup and drop off spots. I feel once I get around twenty students to switch and they like it, word of mouth, word of mouth is huge in any business and that is how mostly companies get spread and customers. The only competitors are the school bus services or city bus system. Their weaknesses are that they are never on time and do not have enough pick up and drop off areas. It can get crowded extremely easily. Customer experience is extremely important when it comes to my service because when they have a good time it will make it easier for me to connect to better business. At colleges word of mouth is the best way to market any product. Price points play a huge role in my business, because of the rate I charge, it is impossible to beat my price and not stick with my product. The business location is seriously important because if it was not with schools it would not survive because then these people can just drive themselves.
I would start with a small staff and work my way up the ladder with staff too much staff in the beginning can potentially hurt me and my business financially. The roles that are played in this venture is getting students on time to their classes and satisfying everyone that has to do with this company. My most important resource would be the amount of transporters I can gather. The more transportation systems I have the more people I can carry around. The next opportunity I want to tackle will be moving to all major universities and become a transportation system they offer from the school and they just pay me per semester to keep their students happy. In the next five years I want to be somewhere living on the coast just being the owner of the company and let everyone else run it and keep my eye on the profits and the CEO's of the company. In a decade I could see myself investing or opening up different business and trying to do the exact same thing all over again. This venture would help me with my future ones because I started from scratch. I had nothing and worked this business idea from nothing and made it a successful business and I would have the money and courage to start another one from scratch. I would end up selling my business eventually and start a new franchise or buy into some franchises that I know would make me more profit than others.
I had some pretty positive feedback when making my venture concept one. One of the students asked if it was like an uber service and that she believed that my business idea would actually work because when she lived in Gainsville of campus and had to drive it was nearly impossible. I had feedback from others saying that the idea was interesting and that it was well thought out. One of the students that gave me feedback agreed and even had first hand experience on how unreliable the school buses or city buses really are. I had all positive feedback throughout the whole semester and on the venture concept number one it did not stop. I rarely had any negative feedback because other students understand how hard it is to start a business out of nowhere and there will be kinks in the idea. I only had one student tell me that the price is way off and that I am not charging enough per student to make enough money. I took that into consideration and tried to refine my business but my way at first is the only acceptable way to go with pricing.
Keith,
ReplyDeleteThis is a very good idea because transportation is key in every college town across America and the traffic is getting increasingly worse as time goes on. You have probably already heard this before, but how would you compete with an app like uber or lyft? I feel like they have a pretty steady handle on the transportation service for most students. Golf carts are definitely a good way to combat that problem, but I don't know if the University wants a bunch of golf carts on the sidewalks around campus. This is a good idea I just think it needs a little more refining on the smaller details. Keep up the good work.

Great Kalia,
ReplyDeleteI really like your blog post. I found your post to be very interesting. A service or app that allows me to order meals and groceries and have them delivered to my home is very convenient especially if you are not able to go to the do the pickup yourself. The convenience of making your service available via an app is another plus, especially for students who don’t have a car to move around
Great post Kalia.
Hi Keith!
ReplyDeleteYour idea has a lot of potential because, like you said, there is a large near continuous supply of your ideal customer. However, I would also look into other target markets, like retirement homes and the aging generations. Many of the men and women living in these facilities want to visit the places they want but can only follow the designated bus schedule (just like students) to accomplish their daily wants. If you could successfully collaborate with these homes, you would have another continuous market as well as one that would pay more for luxury and convenience.

Hello Keith,
ReplyDeleteI believe that your idea has a big chance to make a monumental impact because it addresses the issues of traffic in areas that have high population-density. Particularly in areas that have more low-income citizens or really high-density areas like New York or Washington, D.C. this could go a long way of not only reducing traffic but increasing productivity.
I would love it if you checked out my blog: http://olivertelusmaiteblog3003.blogspot.com/2016/04/final-reflection.html
I really enjoyed reading your post. I think your idea is a creative expansion on already established ride sharing services. I feel like it could be a very successful venture if you are able to gain partnerships with major universities and keep the price of the rides at a minimum.

Hey Keith! I really enjoyed reading your post. Transportation on campus is definitely a huge issue. Busses are often unreliable and uber can get expensive. Like others brought up, competitors could definitely be an issue. Like you, my venture concept had to do with transportation as well. Great job with your work. Unfortunately, I didn’t do this assignment so I can’t share a link.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your post and think you have a great idea in the making when it comes to this type of transportation. I really think it has the opportunity to be successful but it does need some tweeks. It just seems like you will have a lot of competitors in the same market. Uber dominates the transportation market but if you can find a way to get by them you will be successful.

Hey Keith,
ReplyDeleteafter reading about your venture and this experience I think you have a great and promising idea here. It's a very unique idea for transportation and that's what makes it a promising idea and it attacks my biggest issue with UF in transportation on campus. But despite being a great unique idea, it's something that can be replicated and have a big number of competitors pop up if it booms, just like may other ideas. But I always give the advantage to the original so I think this an idea that can survive out in the market. Great post and great idea.http://bstestblogpost.blogspot.com/
Hi Keith,
ReplyDeleteI feel that you are targeting a great market. College students are always struggling with transportation. However, uber already exists. How is your venture concept different from uber? I too decided to create an idea that help students be able to transport around campus better. My venture concept is called Rent A Scooter, where a student can rent a scooter from any one of our locations. Overall great work Keith. So this is like some sort of Uber for universities and colleges?
