Venture Concept No. 1 Week 12
With my business idea there is major opportunity involved when it comes to what
is going to be available and who will be using my services. When it comes to
the transportation for major universities and colleges bus services just do not
cut it. The student body is who has the need and are the potential customers.
The nature of the need is that bus services only have specific pick up and drop
offs. With my service there will be an app and it will put your location on and
we will pick you up from your car in the parking lot and take you to the door
of your needed destination. The changes in the environment is that the streets
keep getting more and more cluttered and with my services we will not have to
wait for the lights on the crowded streets we can use the sidewalks or even
designated drive through. My customers are satisfying this need because there
will always be a huge student body for me to work with and they are extremely
loyal to the bus system or walking because driving to school is just not an
option. To me this opportunity is massive because it offers me the right age
group of clients and a never ending supply of them and for me to give a good
service at a fair price. The window of this opportunity will always be open as
long as there is a student body at these universities. My product offers
students that refuse to wait for buses or refuse to walk to their designated
room for school an easier opportunity to get there faster. For just a dollar
per student that can be paid with tuition and then the school will pay me there
will be multiple 6 person golf carts that will pick up students from the
parking lot and take them to the exact building within their designated time
frame. Easily money will pile on and on from the more students decide to pick
this service. My innovation will address the opportunity that I identified by
making sure that students get the best price and the best time of arrival to
their classes. I believe the customers would switch to my product because I
offer such an easier alternative that the bus system and more pick up and drop
off spots. I feel once I get around twenty students to switch and they like it,
word of mouth would pick up and become a high demand for the student body. The
only competitors are the school bus services or city bus system. Their
weaknesses are that they are never on time and do not have enough pick up and
drop off areas. And it can get crowded extremely easily. Customer experience is
extremely important when it comes to my service because when they have a good
time it will make it easier for me to connect to better business. At colleges
word of mouth is the best way to market any product. Price points play a huge
role because of the rate I charge it is impossible to beat my price and not
stick with my product. The business location is seriously important because if
it was not with schools it would not survive because then people can just drive themselves. I
would hire employees as the time goes because the bigger the company grows the
more people I will need. The roles that are played in this venture is getting
students on time to their classes and satisfying everyone
that has to do with this company. My most important resource would be the
amount of transporters I can gather. The more transportation systems
I have the more people I can carry around. The next opportunity I want to
tackle will be moving to all major universities
and become a transportation system they offer from the school and they just pay
me per semester to keep their students happy. In the next five years I want to
be somewhere living on the coast just being the owner of the company and let
everyone else run it and keep my eye on the profits and the CEO's of the
company. In a decade I could see myself investing or opening up different business
and trying to do the exact same thing all over again. This venture would help
me with my future ones because I started from scratch. I had nothing and worked
this business idea from nothing and made it a successful business and
I would have the money and courage to start another one from scratch.

I really like your idea! But just for clarification, your business is like a uber type of service? Which is great because the bus is sometimes very unreliable and timely. When I was in Gainesville, I lived off campus and always had to rely on the bus and the app was just awful and sometimes I would be late to class because the bus was not running on time. One thing that you did not address for your venture was cost. How much would it cost to use your service? And with the app, would the app be free or would you have to pay for it? Other than that, great idea! If you want to check out my blog, the link is here: http://slollis93.blogspot.ie/
ReplyDeleteHey Keith, this is a really interesting idea. It's like a SNAP service in the daytime. I think this would be useful for a lot of students as so many of us have a hard time getting to classes on time. I think the most important thing for you to think about would be expanding to more than six golf carts. I'm not sure that this would be enough at a school like UF. If you can grow to more than that though, I think this could be really successful. ReplyDeleteHello Adam,
ReplyDeleteOverall, this was a great post! I think the concept is well-drawn out but could use some streamlining. When it comes to transportation, cost is major factor when it comes to consumers, especially when it comes to college students. I would recommend getting your service spread throughout campuses through on-campus promotions, shirt contests, couponing, and social media advertising. Uber is a force to be reckoned with as of now, but a noticeable flaw that major students hate about Uber is when they surge their prices. Maybe you could start a campaign capitalizing off some of their apparent flaws. Nice work!

Adam,
ReplyDeleteI love your idea! Transportation around any campus can be a NIGHTMARE!! I think that offering the service to be added into tuition would really allow students to optimize their time and money. I am an extremely impatient person and I think that this would really be a positive aspect in my life. I hate waiting for anything. I think that your idea could be an extremely successful venture across all campuses in the state of Florida. It is economical, convenient and green! Love it!!

Hey! I really like your idea, because I know how unreliable the bus system is, and how far away the stops can be from where you really want to go. Unfortunately, it sounds quite a lot like uber, so I think there would need to be some adjustments along the way in order to differentiate yourself from them. But all in all, I think its amazing idea! You should check out my blog! http://principlesofent.blogspot.com/2016/03/venture-concept-no-1.html
